Candle Centerpiece Using Moss and Quail Eggs
This tutorial shows you how to create a beautiful candle centerpiece that incorporates moss and quail eggs.
If you are new to this blog: Welcome! My name is Anna and I share information on collecting antique/vintage items, refurbishing furniture and making small crafts/projects. The purpose of this blog is to show you how to use creativity and antiques to make your home beautiful. In addition to information on the blog, you can also follow me on the following social media accounts Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest.

Handcrafted Society
Welcome to the Handcrafted Society! This is a group of talented bloggers who come together monthly to collectively craft creations using a shared medium or theme. This month’s theme was “glass”. So, each blogger created a project that incorporated this item.
The projects by the Handcrafted Society are fun and inspiring because we see the varied perspectives and interpretations of the theme by each participant. These women are amazingly creative in making projects for each month’s theme. Towards the conclusion of this post, you’ll find images and links to the projects for each blogger. I hope you enjoy browsing through all the ideas these ladies have created. Simply click on the image or blog name to view their full post.
Back Story
Truth be told, at the moment there is a lot of snow on the ground. When I look out my office window, there is a vast expanse of snow in my yard. There is no grass. No leaves. There isn’t even any moss. This time of year, I am craving the color green and things reminiscent of spring. So, when I learned this month’s theme was “glass”, I knew I wanted to create something evocative of spring. As always, it’s affordable and easy to create.

Supplies
The first thing we need to do is gather our supplies. Good news! The list of supplies is short. You can get all of these supplies from your local craft store or big box store – such as Michaels, Walmart, or Hobby Lobby. I have provided links to online sources where possible.
- 6 inch wide glass container
- 3 inch wide glass container
- Moss
- Whole Empty Quail eggs
- Faux Fern Stems
- Flameless Votive candle
I was able to find most of these supplies at the local Dollar Tree store. Even the 6 inch wide glass container was found there, albeit for $5. Once you have all your supplies, assembling the candle centerpiece is easy.

Assemble Candle Centerpiece
Place the smaller 3 inch glass container inside the larger 6 inch glass container. Carefully tuck some moss between the two glass containers. Then add in the quail eggs. Top it off with another layer of moss. Keep the moss below the height of the 3 inch glass container. Keep “fluffing” or rearranging the moss and quail eggs until they are evenly distributed around the candle centerpiece.

Trim 3 to 5 faux fern fronds to approximately 6 inches in length. Tuck the fern frond tips into the moss surrounding the exterior of the 3 inch glass container.

Place a flameless votive candle into the 3 inch glass container. If you have a long table, then you may want to create 2-3 of these candle centerpieces.

Here are some variations you can try:
- Tie some twine or ribbon around the outside of the 6 inch glass container
- Add some white pebbles to the bottom of the 6 inch glass container and then add the moss
- Alternate a layer of moss with small dried flowers
- Alternate a layer of moss with small pinecones
- Instead of faux fern fronds, use twigs and branches
In addition to using this as a candle centerpiece, you could also use it as a vase for fresh flowers. Simply fill the 3 inch glass container with water and add daffodils, tulips, roses, lilacs or any other fresh flowers.

Handcrafted Society
As mentioned above, I am participating in the Handcrafted Society with other bloggers who also created projects with the theme of “glass”. You can see what they made below! If you want to learn more about any of the projects, simply click on the image.

I love how this centerpiece came together, Anna. It’s so pretty and such a beautiful way to transition from the winter into the spring season. I also appreciate how you can reuse the glass containers throughout the year too. It really helps when you have limited storage space but adore seasonal decorating. Can’t wait to try this! Big hugs, CoCo PS: Those quail eggs look real!
