Sometimes you encounter a creative soul whose products resonate with you from the first moment you encounter them. Hilary Martin, the person behind this business, creates one of a kind home goods using forgotten pieces of Americana. Perhaps its the “forgotten pieces of Americana” that makes me say “Yep. I definitely need one of those”. I love old and forgotten pieces of American history. (If you have been following me for awhile, this is no surprise)
When I first encountered Hilary’s work at a Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck about 5 years ago, I saw her pennant pillows. Oh. My. Goodness. They are adorable, full of personality and one of a kind. They also make phenomenal gifts for that “hard to shop for person”.

She uses vintage pennants from different univeristies and colleges and makes them into pillows. You buy these pillows from her Etsy store by clicking here. Hilary has a whole collection of pennants and can often times custom make a pillow for you. If you want a pillow with a specific pennant, simply contact her.
However, her talents aren’t just limited to sewing these amazing pillows. She also uses vintage grain sacks and feed sacks to upholster furniture. These pieces of furniture are full of character and charm. Just check out the images below. I love that she uses feed sacks in combination with the ticking fabric. Genius.

But wait, there’s more! Hilary also repurposes a whole variety of fun vintage finds into useful and stylish objects. For example, her tennis racquet table. Yup. Try making one of those at home.

I also stumbled upon this cute lampshade she made.

Apparently her talents have no bounds. With the holiday season upon us, Hilary’s house made items are the perfect one of a kind gift. Plus, there is the added benefit of knowing that you are supporting a creative soul who invested time and energy to make an item by hand.
