So, let’s get started!
Sky Lark House Monthly Unboxing
The Upstate Update
Oh my word y’all. This has got to be one of the coldest and snowiest winters on record. A couple of weeks ago, we received about 2 feet of snow. The daily temperatures are in the single digits. Even the dogs hate going outside. Mr. SLH chases our smaller dog around the house trying to convince her to put on a winter coat before heading outside.
The silver lining with the cold weather is that I have more time to slow down and reflect. For the year 2026, my focus phrase is “being intentional”. As in- being intentional about the words I use, the content you read, and with the use of my time. With every task, I am deliberately slowing down. Focusing on being more mindful and thoughtful. Of course, there is a trade off – less work that can be completed when I am being thoughtful and intentional.
This year, it is my intention to bring you higher quality content while recognizing there will be less content produced overall. Less of a “good enough” approach and more of a “how can this be even better?” approach. This will include updating previous content to reflect new information, ideas, or previously unknown challenges. I hope you find this approach helps you and provides you with better information so your DIYs projects, antique hunting and furniture makeovers are a success.
Now, let’s take a look at this month’s unboxing.
DIY Decoupaged Clay Hearts
After the sprint associated with the holiday season, January was a time of rest and recovery. When I finally returned to creating content, I wanted to make something simple and cheerful. So, I decided to try my hand a making these DIY decoupaged clay hearts.

DIY Small Laundry Room Makeover Ideas

January and February are often months when we organize our homes. As such, here are some ideas on how to makeover a small laundry room on a budget. Let me emphasize, this room is truly tiny. So, many makeover elements simply came down to good organization.

Shopping with Friends

As usual, I got together with some of my blogging friends and we are sharing some of our favorite online finds.
Anna from Sky Lark House

Did you know, all my favorite finds are on LTK? Even those items I shared previously.
While I recognize it is only February and spring is still several months away, I am eager to embrace the pastel hues and new designs of the coming season. Here are some of my favorite online finds for this month.
- This glass candle with a double wick from Walmart looks high end and is budget friendly.
- These ottomans are a great price and provide storage, a win-win if you live in small space. A pair would be perfect for an entryway.
- The colder weather has me staying indoors doing a lot of journaling. This toile patterned hardback lined journal is a great addition to my collection.
- Of course, spring = flowers. So, when I came across these “soda cans” filled with pansies and daisies, I immediately put them into my cart. Wouldn’t they make cute gifts for Valentine’s Day?

Lora from Lora Bloomquist

- I ordered two different sizes of heart punches because I want to make paper heart garland for Valentines. I’ve been looking HERE for inspiration. I wanted good quality punches (not like the dull ones I used for scrapbooking back in the day). I’m hoping to use these for cotton fabrics, too. I got THIS one and THIS one. Very happy with them and excited to get crafty!
- Just love the ruffled detail on the neck and cuffs of these gingham blouses. I actually got two colorways, and they come in a lot of options, too. The fabric is fairly thin, so perfect to layer under a sweater or vest and not get too hot. Will be great for Spring days, too. You can find them HERE.
- The new year always means trying to make better habits, right? I’ve always hated flossing, but THESE little gadgets make it not so much a chore. And I love keeping my teeth white with THESE handy strips.
- By this time in the winter, my cozy sweaters are getting pilled. Thank goodness for THIS handy little machine that shaves them right off quickly. I also use it on blankets and upholstered furniture to give them a fresh look.
Lynn from Living Large in a Small House
On her blog, Lynn shares all the things that make a house a home. She has DIYs, recipes, home decor ideas, gardening suggestions and more. Lynn will join us next month!

Valentine’s Day Decor
I don’t do a lot of decorating for Valentine’s Day, but I do think it’s fun to add a little touch of love to my home in February. “Handy” calls it a Hallmark Holiday and won’t participate; however, he does like when I fill a jar with Valentine’s candy. I found a few things that I’m loving for the season.
- This adorable square quilt tablecloth from Pottery Barn would be so sweet on my table layered over my white rectangular cloth.
- I found some cute-as-can-be hydrangea candles for $5 at Target!
- These vases look so cute with some spring tulips.
- Magnolia has a beautiful candy dish that looks like the vintage cut glass that I collect.
South House Designs
Diane from South House Designs has a wide array of DIYs and projects for your home. She also shares information about entertaining, recipes, and outdoor living. She is known for her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Here are Diane’s favorite finds.

I’m craving some freshening up to make the house feel warmer and brighter. I really scored with these new options at TJ Maxx — which you know don’t last long!!!
- I love this Peter Rabbit baking dish to showcase on my open shelves or my plate rack. And I’m planning to add some budding branches in this bunny pitcher. And then this brass bunny bowl/planter and this adorable plate were just too charming to resist.
- This set of three neutral pillows is just too good! And I’m thrilled to find the intricate details of William Morris prints, but in spring colors. I’m deciding between this pair, and this pair.
- This little bookshelf rechargeable lamp with its scalloped shade will look so cute with these green toile pottery pieces, in a small size and then a bit larger size.
- And this 10-inch square basket is the perfect size and texture. I can’t wait to wind my own ribbon though the open channel based on my room decor or the season. Maybe even to compliment this quilt that will be lovely across the foot of the guest room bed.
